Clubfoot baby: which shoe?

On average, around 200 babies are born with one or two clubfeet each year. The severity of the complaint can differ per baby. This blog post explains why Ponseti is the solution to use in the recovery period after clubfoot surgery. The Ponseti method is used nationally. Having previously used other techniques, Mr. Ponseti used a plaster method that had the correct effect on the clubfoot.
Which shoe can I use with a baby who suffers from clubfoot?
Ponseti has different shoes in its range. These shoes provide the proper compression to the foot, which promotes the recovery of the clubfoot. How long these shoes should be worn depends on the severity of the clubfoot. Always consult the attending physician or orthopedic surgeon for advice on recovery.
Preventing clubfoot returning
At the same time, the bones are pressed into the correct position. To prevent a recurrent clubfoot, aids are strongly advised after the cast period. Ponseti devices should be worn 23 hours a day for the first three months. Then only while sleeping until the child is 4 years old.
Recovering by the Ponseti Method
The treatment of clubfoot is accompanied by the Ponseti method. The clubfoot is gently stretched and then reinforced with plaster. The overtight muscles and tendons located in the inside and back of the foot are stretched and relaxed.
